My New Year’s resolution “to report each month’s walk within 3 days” has already slipped by as many days. However, I shall try and do better.
Now, last wednesday 4 courageous ladies met to brave a sunny but bitterly cold morning for an informative stroll through the old town Abingdon following the Heritage Trail. With a nod and a wink at technology we also listened to an audio commentary from my mobile phone !! Causing a fair bit of of confusion since I frequently hit the wrong line ( blame it on the severe cold and shaky hands – no gloves your see). Maybe the ‘Knitting Group’ could have been of help. Part of the trail led us to a beautiful garden, right by the river overlooking the bridge. Whenever you happen to walk along East St. Helen Street lookout for number 30 St Ethelwold’s House. It has a lovely iron gate and a sign invites passersby to enter the garden. Bring a picnic and enjoy the view and peaceful surroundings.
After our round tour we were all more than justified to warm up with a cup of tea and cake in the town hall cafe. Olga had to get back but 3 of us carried on for a fabulous stroll, by now in the warming midday sun, (1 degree plus) along the river, crossing the weir before returning to the car park.
Just one more point :
NEXT MONTH walk will be on : 17th February – Easter is early this year so I will investigate if our favourite ‘Pool Room’ is providing lunches.
