On Thursday, 25th February, members of the W.I. 4/5 Book Group visited Stratford-upon-Avon for the matinee performance of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”.
We were lucky in that it was a beautiful sunny day and so the drive to Stratford was enjoyable in itself. We were also lucky to have acquired some good seats and the atmosphere at the venue was quite special. The production was excellent. It was performed in modern dress with minimal, though dramatic, sets. The dialogue was all very clear and the comic elements extremely funny. It was made all the more interesting by the inclusion of local school children playing Titania’s fairy followers and a local amateur dramatic group cast as the Mechanicals, who we felt almost outshone the professionals! Topped off by a good meal in the local Cafe Rouge, it was all in all a splendid outing.
