Nellie the barn owl and the larger Indian Eagle owl were the two owls brought along to our WI meeting on 8th November by Chrissie Harper. As soon as they were taken out of their travel boxes they took charge of the situation! Nellie decided to do what was expected of her and flew around when prompted, with the prospect of getting rewarded with food when she landed. The Eagle Owl, on the other hand, refused to cooperate and fly, but nevertheless was very charming just sitting on the back of a chair surveying the audience or nestling affectionately against Chrissie when picked up!
Chrissie does wonderful work running a 24-hour rescue centre for owls and touring around giving talks to inform the public about these beautiful birds that she loves so much.
