What We Do

As well as our monthly meetings, we have a variety of groups that meet regularly in each other’s houses. These include two book groups (one meeting monthly and the other every 5 to 6 weeks), quilting, knitting, walking and swimming groups. In the past we have had a family history group which enabled members to start researching their ancestry; and another helping members with their computing skills. While these groups have been started by WI members, we welcome anyone with similar interests to join us. And if you think there is a need for another group please let us know.

The monthly issue of “News and Views” (produced by the Oxfordshire Federation of WIs – OFWI) has lots of information about events that are taking place and there are sign-up forms at our monthly meetings where you can register to go on any of the outings.

Occasionally we visit Denman College, either as a group or individually, to take part in some of the many and varied courses on offer from cookery, garden design, water colour painting, etc. See the Denman College website for more details.

On a national level we get involved with the campaigning side of the WI. Each year members put forward issues that they feel strongly about. These are then short-listed and then debated as part of our monthly meeting. We vote for the one we feel most passionate about and our vote is then taken by one of our members to the AGM. Internationally we support ACWW (The Associated Country Women of the World) by collecting any foreign currency and the loose change in our purses, to help their latest fundraising cause – click here for more details.
